Extension lecture on DNA technology at Modi College
The Biological society of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today organized an On-line extension lecture on the topic of ‘Recombinant DNA technology’. The objective of this lecture was to explore the emerging research areas in the field of genetic engineering and to understand the role of this genetic recombination in the areas of science, medicine, agriculture and industry. The lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) R. C. Gupta, Former head, department of Botany, Punjabi University, Patiala.
College principle Dr. Khushvinder Kumar while welcoming the main speaker said that this year the Nobel Prize in chemistry was awarded to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A Doudna for the development of a method for genome editing which clearly indicates that genetic engineering and and bio-chemical science is opening new possibilities and imaginations for human existence. The speaker was formally introduced by Dr. Santosh Bala, Assistant professor, in his lecture, Prof. (Dr.) R. C. Gupta discussed ethical considerations of genetic engineering including transgenic plants and animals. He presented different studies and critical findings about impact of recombinant technology on the human health and what needs to be done to counter this.
Dr.Ashwani Sharma, Dean, life sciences and head of department said that it is important to understand how this technology can revolutionize social reform efforts in the field of nutrition, public health and environment. We need to acknowledge the indelible and undeniable role of genetic science in improving the quality of human life.
The lecture was attented by the large number of students. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr.Bhanvi Wadwa. The event was technically managed by Dr. Rohit Sechdeva. On this occasion Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, Dr. Akshita, Dr. Maninder, Dr. Manish, Dr. Heena, Dr.Teena and other.

ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੀ.ਐਨ.ਏ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸਣ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ
ਸਥਾਨਿਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੀ ਬਾਇੳਲੌਜੀਕਲ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ‘ਰੀਕੌੰਬੀਨੈਂਟ ਡੀ.ਐਨ.ਏ ਤਕਨਾਲੌਜੀ’ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।ਇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਜੈਨਟਿਕ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੋਜ ਤੇ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਪਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਖੋਜਾਂ/ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ, ਮੈਂਡੀਕਲ ਸਾਇੰਸ, ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਨੱਅਤੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਵਟਾਂਦਰਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ।ਇਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁੱਖੀ ਪ੍ਰੋ. (ਡਾ.) ਆਰ. ਸੀ. ਗੁਪਤਾ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ.ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਰਸਾਇਣ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਸਾਇੰਸਦਾਨਾਂ ਇਮੂਏਲੇ ਕਾਰਪੇਂਟਰ ਅਤੇ ਜੇਨੀਫਰ ਏ ਡਨੂੰਡਾ ਨੂੰ ਜੈਨੇਟਿਕ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੀਨੋਮ ਐਡੀਟਿੰਗ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਸਾਬਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੈਨੇਟਿਕ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਤੇ ਬਾਇੳ-ਕੈਮੀਕਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਣ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਵੀਂਆਂ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਮਰੱਥਾਵਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਰਸਮੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਐਂਸਿਸਟੈਂਟ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ.ਸੰਤੋਸ਼ ਬਾਲਾ ਨੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ.(ਡਾ.) ਆਰ. ਸੀ. ਗੁਪਤਾ ਨੇ ਜੈਨੇਟਿਕ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੌਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੈਤਿਕ-ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਅਧਿਐਂਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਖੋਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਕੜ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਕਿ ‘ ਰੀ ਕੌਬੀਨੈਂਟ’ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੈਂਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿਹਤ-ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਡਾ. ਅਸ਼ਵਨੀ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਡੀਨ ਲਾਈਫ ਸਇੰਸਿਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਬੌਟਨੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਾਗ-ਮੁੱਖੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਮਹਤੱਵਪੂਰਣ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤਕਨੀਕ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਤਕਨਾਲੌਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਕਾਰਕਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪੋਸ਼ਣ, ਪਬਲਿਕ ਸਿਹਤ ਤੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਆਦਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਵੀਂ ਕ੍ਰਾਂਤੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਤੇ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਗਹਿਰਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ।ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਡਾ. ਭਾਨਵੀ ਵਧਵਾ ਨੇ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ।ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ -ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ ਡਾ. ਰੋਹਿਤ ਸਚਦੇਵਾ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ।ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਡਾ. ਕੁਲਦੀਪ ਕੁਮਾਰ, ਡਾ. ਅਕਸ਼ਿਤਾ, ਡਾ. ਮਨਿੰਦਰ, ਡਾ.ਮਨੀਸ਼, ਡਾ. ਹਿਨਾ, ਡਾ.ਟੀਨਾ ਹਾਜ਼ਿਰ ਸਨ।
